This would be my first real attempt at writing something on my blog.
According to my advisors (trusted friends and life coaches), I have to update this regularly. This could be a difficult task as I am not one for regular anythings, that is, I'm lazy and disorganized. I am, however, willing to give it a shot.
And so begins my debut into the world of the inter-webs.
My teachers often say how it is good to keep a record of your works and studies etc etc. I suspect that is because 'true art' is found within a process. An artwork is never a finished product, but one small component added to the bank of ideas from which creativity and life flow.
So, if the products of our 'productive species life' are a reflection of our unique ability to express ourselves creatively, then lo and behold, welcome to my experience of life represented to you through a series of nudes and monsters.
I'll finish off by saying I went in to pick up all my assessments today. So I finally got my Zombie head. It was my favourite work from the uni projects series.
It’s based around the idea of a conceptual society, where we rely on conceptual images to gather information and connect.

I am highlighting the spiritual depravity that occurs when man removes himself from the workings of nature.
I refer to evolution, as it is the natural way of things to change and evolve. But with the growth and innovation of new technologies, we are enabled to transcend the natural experience of time and reality. As we enter into a new creative stage of human evolution, what part of our humanity is lost?
Emile Durkheim in his philosophical writings “The Dualism of Human Nature and it’s Social Conditions” writes of human consisting of two alternate natures. There is the egoistic ;The element of ourselves that is concerned with our individuality and with it alone. It is referred frequently throughout our cultures creative texts as the ‘experience’ , ‘soul’ or ‘vital energy’ (Durkheim, 1913, 62). On the other hand, there is the conceptual. They are the symbols for life. They are without life, but they are the very things that allow us to connect, to feel understood and form societies. The two elements live in contradiction to one another, but as we are social, and thus, conceptual beings, they exist within the very fabric of society, embedded deep within our roots.
Though Darwin and Wallace’s theory of evolution has become widely understood and accepted in modern society, it is not quite understood that slow change is still occurring. As human societies continue to build on their knowledge and technologies, societies continue to grow, bringing on new waves of social evolution. Neo-evolution, as it is commonly referred to is unlike that Darwin describes, as it is controlled by man for the aid of man.
If we examine the past there is undeniable evidence of social change occurring with technology. As man’s technology grew, so too did the population of people depending on it. Population growth and economic growth were for the first time, occurring together post industrial evolution. As community sizes increases, so too does the demand for technology and unlimited information.
Contemporary societies have bred the need to keep up, socially and economically. We are now, with the aid of internet and telecommunications, able to place ourselves and our objects into conceptual forms and thrust them into the hyperreal cyber world. It is a hyperreal world, created by humans to represent life, and is controlled by neither chance nor nature. It is a world ruled by concepts and connotations that do not belong to the egoistic self, words and language, mass consumeristic logos, pictures and symbols.
As our collective conscience continues to build upon itself and store its information in a conceptual map so detailed it covers the very things it was meant to represent, will we evolve into a social species that lives increasingly more in the ‘conceptual world’? Are our minds outliving the usefulness of our physical body? When our bodies and physical world decay, will we be forever living in the concept of our own existence? What alien beings will become of us when we place our personal experiences in the hands of humans and remove ourselves from the fate of nature.
My artwork is a stark prediction of the fate of humanity, where information we receive or emit is controlled by the giants, who are controlled by the collective of men. It is a time where we live more and more in conceptual world, but are torn from the essence of our humanity and individuality.
